They work closely with the GPs to offer support and help to patients with a wide range of difficulties and concerns. They have valuable local knowledge and help patients link to voluntary services, and provide initial advice on social and benefit issues. They have been a valued support to some of our isolated patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is possible to book directly for a phone call with Terri or Emma by contacting reception on 01423 566574. GPs often ask them for help with patients problems.

Laura Cardwell, Emma Davies, Gareth Maunder, Tom Bradshaw

Job Title
First Contact Practitioners (FCP)

Additional Notes
Our highly qualified FCPs are all Senior Physiotherapists with postgraduate training in Musculoskeletal Management. They deal with all types of problems affecting the Bones Joints and Muscles. They are skilled in examining and treating these conditions. They are qualified to request Xrays and scans when required. In some situations they can offer injections for musculoskeletal conditions.  If you need a course of Physio treatment they will refer you into the Harrogate Hospital Physio department.

If you have a new problem with your back, neck, joints or muscles you can book to see the FCP. The FCPs see our patients initially, and you do not need to see a GP before you see an FCP. Reception can book you directly into their appointments. Appointments are usually available within two weeks and often sooner than that.  They are based in the surgery every day and available to see patients face to face or undertake telephone appointments when necessary.

The GPs value their specialist knowledge and often ask their opinion on difficult cases. Dr Craven says “If I had a musculoskeletal problem, I would ask for the FCP!”.
